Raynor Cable & Drum Replacement: The Ontario Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Raynor-compatible cable and drum replacements across Ontario, with most jobs completed same-day at a typical installed cost of $130 to $250 per cable assembly, including the drum pairing and travel. The job runs higher when both sides need replacement or the torsion system has to be rebalanced, which is common after a cable snap. Most Ontario homeowners discover the failure the hard way: the door hangs unevenly, one side drops a few inches, or the door refuses to lift at all. Sometimes it’s a frayed cable you can see from the driveway. More often, the cable has already let go inside the drum and the telltale sign is a door that binds mid-travel.

Which Raynor Models This Applies To

Raynor builds residential doors under several lines that use cable-and-drum lift systems: the Preview, Aspen, AP series, and the builder-grade Relante line are the ones we see most in Ontario tract homes and newer subdivisions. The compatibility gotcha with Raynor is drum diameter. Some lower-headroom Raynor models use a smaller-diameter cable drum than the standard 4-inch residential drum, and swapping in a generic replacement changes the lift geometry enough to throw the door out of balance. We match the drum to the model sticker on the vertical track or the door’s end stile, then verify against cable length, which Raynor specs between 8 feet 6 inches and 14 feet depending on door height and track radius. Servo Garage Doors Ontario is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Raynor, but we install Raynor OEM cables and drums alongside proven aftermarket equivalents when the OEM part is discontinued or backordered.

Signs Your Raynor Cable & Drum Replacement Is Failing

Signs Your Raynor Cable & Drum Replacement Is Failing
  • Door hangs crooked or one side sits lower. One cable has stretched or begun unraveling inside the drum, so that side drops slightly while the other side holds tension.
  • Loud pop or snap from inside the track. A cable let go completely. The door may still open, but it’s now riding on one cable and the remaining side is overloaded.
  • Frayed or unraveled cable visible near the bottom bracket. Steel cable doesn’t fail all at once. You’ll see broken strands first, usually within two coil turns of the bottom bracket attachment.
  • Door jerks or catches mid-travel. The cable has jumped out of the drum groove and is now wrapping unevenly, which means every cycle is scraping the drum edge and shortening cable life.
  • Grinding or metal-on-metal noise from the top corners. The drum itself is worn or out of round, allowing the cable to ride against the drum flange instead of seating cleanly in the groove.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Raynor cable and drum replacement in Ontario runs $130 to $250 per side installed, including the cable, the drum matching, the bottom bracket inspection, and re-tensioning. If both sides need replacement, expect $250 to $400, and if the torsion spring is also fractured or losing tension, the spring replacement adds $180 to $340. The range exists because drum type, cable length, and whether we’re doing one side or both all vary.

Here’s the pricing structure we quote from:

Service Typical Installed Cost
Cable replacement (one side) $130-$250
Cable and drum replacement (one side) $180-$300
Cable and drum replacement (both sides) $250-$400
Torsion spring replacement (if needed) $180-$340

Every job is quoted as a flat written price before the technician touches a tool. That’s Clause 1 of The Haven Standard. We photograph the failed cable or drum before writing anything, so you’ll see the actual part that failed, the measurement that confirms the match, and the line-item price, all on the same paperwork.

You can safely inspect what you have. Look at the cable where it meets the bottom bracket, check for frayed strands, and note which size drum is installed. You should not attempt the replacement. Raynor doors run the same torsion system as every other modern residential door, which means the cables carry the full weight of a 130 to 300 pound door through a spring under constant, significant tension. A cable that lets go while you’re working at the drum can whip fast enough to take a finger off. That’s not an exaggeration by a nervous lawyer; it’s the reality Marcus Deller and our crew account for on every cable-and-drum job we take in Ontario.

If the cable is frayed and you want confirmation before spending anything, call (951) 470-2012. We’ll tell you what to look for, tell you the price range over the phone, and schedule the repair. Name the part, quote the range, then do the work.
