Genie Opener Logic Board Repair: The Ontario Owner’s Guide

Genie opener logic board repair in Ontario typically runs $120-$320 installed, with most boards swapped in a single visit because we carry Genie-compatible boards on the truck. The owner usually discovers the failure as a wall console that lights up but won’t move the door, or an opener that runs fine manually but ignores every remote and keypad command. If the motor runs and the travel limits are drifting or erasing themselves, the logic board is the part at fault, not the motor, and not the remote.

Before anyone quotes a replacement, we photograph the board itself. You’ll see the burn mark, the swollen capacitor, or the cracked solder joint before a dollar figure is written. That’s the rule we’ve worked under since 2015, and it’s Clause 4 of The Haven Standard, the written operating standard Marcus Deller built Servo Garage Doors Ontario around.

Which Genie Models This Applies To

Genie has used several logic board families across its opener lines, and they are not interchangeable. The IntelliG series (IntelliG 1000, 1200, and the newer IntelliG 1200 with battery backup) uses a different board than the chain-driven SilentMax and PowerMax lines, and the older screw-drive Excelerator and TriloG models use boards that Genie no longer manufactures as OEM. That last point matters in Ontario because plenty of homes built from the mid-2000s onward still have TriloG units bolted to the ceiling, and when that board fails, the OEM option is gone.

The part number is printed on a white label on the board itself, usually beginning with a number like 38822R or 36190R. We match that number, not the opener model number, because Genie ran running production changes where the same model shipped with different board revisions. For discontinued boards, we can typically source a quality aftermarket equivalent or, in some TriloG and Excelerator cases, recommend a full opener replacement because the aftermarket board costs more than a new unit. We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with Genie, so we’re free to tell you when replacing the whole opener is the better spend.

Signs Your Genie Opener Logic Board Repair Is Failing

Signs Your Genie Opener Logic Board Repair Is Failing

These symptoms all point to the board rather than the mechanical parts of the opener. If you’re seeing three or more, the board is the probable culprit.

  • Wall console lights up but the door won’t move. Power reaches the board, but the board isn’t sending voltage to the motor. This is the most common Ontario call we get.
  • Remotes and keypads stopped working at the same time. When all radio receivers fail simultaneously, it’s not the remote batteries. The receiver circuit on the board has died.
  • Travel limits reset or drift on their own. The board stores the up and down travel settings in memory. When that memory chip fails, the door forgets where to stop and over-travels or reverses short.
  • Door reverses for no reason, or won’t reverse when it should. The board interprets sensor input wrong. This is a safety issue and should be addressed promptly.
  • Burning smell or visible scorch on the board. A shorted capacitor or fried relay leaves physical evidence. We’ll photograph it before we quote it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Genie opener logic board repair in Ontario runs $120-$320 installed. The spread depends on whether we’re installing an OEM board, an aftermarket equivalent, or whether the opener is old enough that we need to pull a board from our cross-reference inventory. The labor is flat and included in the written price, not billed as a separate mystery line item.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • OEM Genie board (current models): $200-$320 installed
  • Quality aftermarket board (IntelliG, SilentMax, PowerMax): $150-$260 installed
  • Discontinued-model board (TriloG, Excelerator, older screw-drive): priced case by case, often a replacement opener quote instead
  • Labor and programming: included in the flat written price

Every price is written and agreed before work starts. That’s Clause 1 of The Haven Standard. If the technician finds something unexpected, the price doesn’t change without a new written scope and your sign-off. The board itself carries a manufacturer or supplier warranty, and our work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things you can safely check before calling: confirm the opener has power at the outlet, check that the wall console lock button isn’t engaged, and verify that nothing is blocking the safety sensors. That’s the extent of what we’d suggest. Anything beyond that means opening the opener housing, and that puts you near live 120-volt wiring and a charged capacitor that can hold voltage even after the unit is unplugged.

The logic board isn’t a part where the reward justifies the risk. If you replace the wrong board revision or install it with a wiring harness reversed, you can burn out the new board in seconds, and supplier warranties don’t cover DIY installation errors. We stock Genie-compatible boards on the truck, we program the travel limits and remote codes on site, and you get a documented photo record of the failed board and the completed repair before we leave. Call (951) 470-2012 and tell us the model number on the opener. We’ll bring the right board the first time.
